Light & Shadows: Redefining Workspaces
The manipulation of nature and light aims to drive the project’s commitment to fostering effectiveness, efficiency, and health. By embracing the essence of well-being prominent in LA culture, the design seeks to create a workspace that goes beyond merely providing desks and chairs but more importantly sheds new light on urban work culture both literally and metaphorically.
By offering a variety of environments from open collaborative spaces to more intimate and private settings, the design encourages flexibility and freedom for individuals to choose spaces that cater to their evolving preferences throughout the day while offering areas for recreational breaks and a retreat to nature. With nap pods, a cafe, a game room, and a rooftop “mini-park” this project supplies more than enough room for work-life balance.
The overarching theme of slanted lines and shapes mirrors the natural play of shadows, creating an environment that not only reflects the city’s abundant sunlight but also generates intriguing and ever-shifting shadows within the space itself through overhangs and slopes.
As highlighted on the site analysis of the intersection between Hope and 12th Street in Downtown Los Angeles, this project centers around a critical focal point: shadows.
