EXPLORING NATURE THROUGH THE SQUARE PAVILLION
The design of the pavilion emphasizes the dynamic interplay between geometric form and the natural landscape.
As seen in the plan below, the square is what initially dictates the form of the pavilion. The design begins with 3 layers of perfect squares that are joined, yet ends with 2 due to its relationship with the natural landscape that forces a diagonal cut across it, transforming what was once quadrilateral into a triangle.
The same way the natural shape of the site cuts away from the square-based pavilion, the square also carves out of the landscape to form a sloped space on the site—highlighting the dynamic relationship between what is man-made/artificial with what comes from nature.
To add to this concept, the collection of different-sized columns aims to resemble a forest-like environment; it is something that has been manufactured but tries to mimic the natural environment and the ambiance it creates
There are also 25 columns which is, in fact, a square number.
